Be in this world as a Traveler

Bismillah

Ibn Umar narrated that the Prophet (S) said: "Be in this life as if you are a stranger or a wayfarer."

Ibn Umar used to say, "In the evening do not expect to live to the morning, and in the morning, do not expect to live to the evening."

(Related by Bukaree)

My take:
It is important to realize our priorities in this life and not become too attached to matters of little benefit. I think we should strive to come to a nice balance of working hard to accomplish our goals in this life with the firm understanding that the hereafter is very real and eternal.

May Allah help us keep our intentions sincere and be of those who are rightly guided. Ameen.

On another note, I am having knee surgery in a few hours, iA, and I hope you can keep me in your duas. I don't know if you are keeping up with the health care insurance debate, but feel free to post articles and updates on this topic.

Be safe and take care.

Peace-

Assalamu alikum. This hadeeth helps me a lot in stressful times. I try to remind myself that what matters is our frame of mind with our Rabb. Are we submitting to His Will? We have to remind ourselves that our worry/trouble will be taken care by Him, the All-Merciful. What is important is how We are dealing with it. May Allah help us put our trust in Him and help us live as travelers.

I love this hadith because it places a greater value on the afterlife as apposed to this life. Something that is unseen vs. something that is tangible. But this is the essense of faith.

One thing that is sometimes hard for people to see and understand is putting faith into the unseen. We don't see Angels, we don't see Allah (swt), we don't even have proof that the Prophets (AS) even existed if it were not for the Qur'an and hadith. But we still believe and have faith in all these things because of the signs (ayah) presented to us by Allah.

This hadith shows us the value of not only the afterlife...but the importance of placing your trust into Allah, the Most High.

May Allah make your surgery smooth and easy. May it cause as little discomfort as possible and may it be as beneficial to you as possible, Ameen.
